The journey north from Cairns is spectacular.  It starts with a trip along Queensland’s very own great ocean road, between Cairns and Port Douglas, before you continue north into the world’s oldest continually surviving tropical rainforests, in the Daintree National Park.  Further north, you enter the Cape York Peninsula, an area covering 150,000km2 (the combined area of England, Scotland and Wales) and home to rainforest, dry savannah, indigenous culture, including Aboriginal rock art and galleries, and Australia’s most northern point.
